A lot of stuff gets established here that I’ll figure out later
Mostly though it is MURDER INVESTIGATION DATE.
DAY 2
Trial 1 - Apollo/Trucy chair
Ema Skye - Scientifically laying down the basic facts of the case. We establish the existence of two witnesses. And the first witness is…
Mike Meekins - Mike. Motherflipping. Meekins. Who is somehow employed as a guard despite his crippling and bumbling incompetence. His testimony gets ripped to shreds and basically leaves us with the possibility that the person he saw wasn’t actually Apollo, but he totally saw someone carrying a globe. With that testimony torn to shreds, all that’s left is to try the other witness…
Kit - Kuroba Kaito, who witnessed Apollo in the courtroom with a globe during the recess. He was there to watch the other case, you see. There’s reasonable suspicion that he could have done it, and as a ploy to get more time to investigate some of the questions that come up in the case he winds up throwing Kit under the bus. With no clear killer, the case is called.
Day 2 - Exploration
OH HEY MORE SECRETS GET EXPLAINED AND PEOPLE KNOW THINGS ABOUT STUFF
The wright anything agency gets involved again, and Phoenix chairs with Apollo this time because he needs all the help he can get, clearly.
Trial 2 - Apollo/Phoenix chair
Kit - We continue down the rabbit hole of Kit Didn't Actually Do It, and find that, surprise surprise, he didn't actually do it. Having proven that by poking contradictions, it's then pointed out that this leaves Apollo as the only suspect. There's mood matrixes and stuff involved too. And perception. AND THEN SUDDENLY someone remembers having overheard something during the recess.
Athena - During the recess in Case 4, she overheard something that sounded like yelling or a struggle or something, and forgot about it in all the excitement over how tense the case was. This comes back around to proving that Zaniah and the Police Chief Guy were talking at some point.
Police Chief - Shows up and puts up a flimsy attempt to avoid discussing that the conversation ever happened, then literally busses Zaniah by saying he was trying to talk her out of killing the real killer just due to a lack of decisive evidence. Basically paints her as the real murderer.
Court falls into chaos because WTF THE PROSECUTOR ACTUALLY DID IT?!?!?!?!?! and we convene for the day. Naturally, Apollo is released.
EXPLORATION - Day 3
There isn't any, just an establishing shot of the perspective changing to Zaniah. Zaniah asks Apollo from the detention center to go ask Ema for one piece of evidence or another that she had requested earlier, and states that since she has been personally inconvenienced far too much by this she will represent herself thank you very much. She does ask him to help her.
TRIAL 3 - Zaniah/Apollo chair
And now the player gets to mess around with NICE TRY, which was a thing I wanted to do.
PS. Your prosecutor today is Gavin, because obviously she can't prosecute herself.
Ema - Again, updating with the new facts of the case, and testifying about what she knows of Zaniah's movements during the recess.
Chief of Police - Cross examination 1, the second things start going south he invokes his right to refuse to testify.
THE CURIO SHOP GUY FROM CASE 4 - In which we prove conclusively that there is a giant smuggling ring involved here, and that the police chief is definitely involved. Due to what happened with Damon Gant, there is a new law that was passed ~5 years ago that says if a poliece chief is indicted they can be compelled to testify.
Chief of Police - But of course, he makes everything terrible by revealing that Zaniah doesn't actually have any proper paperwork to be prosecuting in the first place. OH GOOD THING SHES NOT THE PROSECUTOR ANYMORE :) In a scorched earth victory, they do manage to pin him with murder, but unfortunately Zaniah's badge is up for review as she technically got it by agreeing to participate in an organized criminal conspiracy (even if she totally lied about it and worked to shut them the hell down).
